Blocking Top Level Domains (TLD) with GAT Shield extension
There may be situations where a top-level domain (TLD) should be blocked. Within this post will cover how we blocked .io TLD using GAT Shield.
Configuring rule in GAT Shield Console
Launch GAT Shield.
Navigate to Configuration → Alert Rules
Click on + Add a rule and select Visit.
A new window will be displayed, fill in the necessary details.
Within the Page URL Regex field, type the following regex:
Regex Code (verified with regex101.com)
when the TLD ends with .io use the regex above
when TLD ends with .io and all nested pages use the regex below
Now, that you have pasted your regex code into the appropriate field.
Fill in other parameters and save the Alert Rule.
Any user who attempts to access a top-level domain with .io will be prevented and the incident will be recorded. You can view all of the incident reports within the Shield Alerts area.
